Levy Middle School

Meeting Minutes 6-1-2006

At our last meeting, on June 1st, we discussed the ways in which the Go Green Initiative will be implemented at Levy. The following plans were made for the 2006-2007 school year.

Education - A waste audit will be conducted by the Levy environmental club / green team. Recyclable materials will be recovered from an ordinary classroom trash container, and sorted. Students will see how much recyclable material is thrown away, and will post the results for other students and staff to see and learn from. Jacob, Elmira and Sejala have volunteered to
help with this project.

Recycle - I spoke with head custodian Frank Marsh, who told me he would be more than willing to participate in the Go Green Program. We can plan to meet with him during the next school year, maybe during an environmental club meeting.

- It was also decided that a 2 bin recyclable material system would be enacted, to maximize total recovery. The bin that would be used to recover paper would remain blue, and the bin to be used for container recycling would be painted a different color. It was suggested that Miss.
Bonfe or Mr. Belwin may be interested in helping to paint the bins.

Evaluate the Impact of Environmental Activities : the environmental club
will continue to meet and under Mrs. Yakey's leadership, will discuss ways
to reduce Levy's negative environmental impact, and will take on projects to
accomplish this mission, as they have been doing.
