Naef Recycling Announces Winners of
Recycling Scholarships
 
Syracuse, NY 2005- Mark Naef, President of Naef Recycling will present a check to the winners of the Recycling Scholarship Essay contest at a press conference on Monday, November 14 the at 4:00 pm at Naef Recycling 380 Carr St. East Syracuse.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded: One to a high school senior from the City of Syracuse and one to a high school senior who resides in either Onondaga, Oswego, Delaware or Schoharie county where Naef recycling does business.

The winners are: Onondaga County - Jennifer Mourey, Home Schooled, West Genesee School District - “Recycling The Right Way”

City of Syracuse- Travis Postma, Henninger High School - “The Importance of Recycling”

The 1,000 essay contest was judged by a five person committee:

*  Carmen Harlow - Deputy Commissioner of Public Works, City of Syracuse

*  Don Hughes - Board member, Recycling Committee, Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency

*  Mark Naef - President, Naef Recycling LLC

*  T. Brendan Whelan - Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee, Onondaga County legislature.

* Linda De Stefano - Vice Chair, Iroquios Chapter of the Sierra Club and long time environmental activist.
 

Mark Naef, President of Naef Recycling, board member of the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling and a long term recycling activist says, "It was great to read the essay’s on recycling from high school seniors in Central New York. They really seem to understand the process! I hope that we can all learn from the winning essays.”

Mark chose  to award the scholarships this week to bring attention to National America Recycles Day which falls on the 15th. He will be attending  a two day (!5 & 16) state wide conference on recycling in Rochester entitled "Waste is A Resource in the Wrong Place" organized by NYS Assoc. Of Reduction, Reuse and Recycling and Dept. Of Environmental Conservation.
